Ambassador von Burgsdorff holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Studies from the Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), Berlin, Germany, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg, Germany. He was appointed to open the office the European Union in Havana, Cuba, in February of 2003. Among his previous EU positions is Head of the Cuba and Jamaica Desk Section in Brussels. He has been Visiting Professor of International Relations at the Pacific University of Hawaii, and has published on the process of structural adjustment in Africa, concepts of democracy and governance; role of NGOs in society and development cooperation; and export-led industrialization and free trade zones in Asia. |
