Department of Orientation
Leadership Opportunities
Each year, the Department of Orientation puts on major orientation programs in the fall and spring semesters. The success of these programs is contingent on the student leaders, who are central to the process of acclimating students to the UM community. Therefore, each year we seek out the best and the brightest to become members of the orientation staff. Being a member of the orientation staff means you will have one of the most important leadership experiences at UM and that you will connect even further with your fellow classmates and staff.
We encourage all students to actively pursue the many orientation positions that are available each year. Applications will be available online through the links on this page and information will be updated throughout the campus during the appropriate times. Please do not hesitate to contact our office or any current student staff members if you have any questions.
- Program Coordinator (applications available early fall)
Program Coordinators (PCs) for New Student and Parent Orientation are seasoned member of the student orientation staff that have previously served as Orientation Leaders, or as Orientation Fellows for more than one year. The PCs meet with the Director and Assistant Director of Orientation on a weekly basis and are primarily responsible for the selection, training and scheduling of the rest of the orientation student staff.
- Orientation Leader (applications available late fall)
Orientation Leaders (OLs) have previously served as Orientation Fellows and are part of the Orientation Planning Committee that meets weekly during the Spring semester. OLs also coordinate the Orientation Fellow selection process and are responsible for the coordination of a group of Orientation Fellow during the orientation program in the fall. Orientation Leaders are also expected to staff the orientation program for the spring semester.
- Orientation Fellow (applications available early spring)
Orientation Fellows (OFs) work directly with our New Students each fall. Each OF will serve as a resource to a group of new students, answering any questions they might have over the summer and guiding them through their first days on campus during the orientation program.
