So you think you want to be an engineer? Not sure, but want to learn more about what engineers do? Then you might want to consider the Engineering Summer Scholars Program at the University of Miami, June 27, 2009 thru July 17, 2009.
The Summer Scholar Programs are designed specifically for high school students. The current college courses are adapted for this particular age group and are only taught to the program participants at that time during the summer semester. Each of our programs gives students an idea of what they can expect of an academic discipline. One of our goals is to help students to understand their interests so that they can make better decisions regarding future studies. Another goal is to foster independent thinking and exploration. We hope that after the conclusion of the three weeks that they have learned practical life skills in relating to their peers, challenging their current way of thought, and learning to become self motivated young adults. Each student will arrive on campus at different stages of academic and social maturation; however, we strive to offer a safe learning environment to increase the abilities and confidence of each participant. Students also earn 3 to 6 hours of college credit that is part of their official record at the University of Miami.
