Student Parking on the Coral Gables Campus

Welcome to the University of Miami

for the 2008 - 2009 academic  year.

The information contained herein is intended to provide you with basic parking and transportation information for the Coral Gables campus. For detailed information on the rules and regulations pertaining to parking on campus, please be sure to obtain a copy of the University of Miami's Moving Vehicle Parking Code.  In order to avoid fines, towing, and possible disciplinary action, all vehicles on the Coral Gables campus must adhere to the policies as published in the Code. Familiarity with, and attention to, the University's Moving Vehicle Parking Code is the most effective way of avoiding a parking citation.

All vehicles on campus must be registered with this department and are required to display a current and valid parking permit.   Six letters identify parking lots on campus: C, R, FA, ED, V. Parking permits are printed with the appropriate corresponding letter on the reverse side (facing the driver) for easy orientation on campus.  Park vehicles in designated spaces within lots where the entrance signage includes the letter designator printed on your parking permit.

In order to facilitate the distribution of parking permits, we offer a permit application and home delivery  program to students via the on-line myUM system.

Effective fall 2008, first year resident students [students residing on the Coral Gables campus who are attending college on a full time basis for the first time] are restricted from purchasing a parking permit to park  a vehicle on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus. This policy applies to first year students living in University of Miami student housing on the Coral Gables campus. First year commuter students and first year transfer students with 30 or more credits are exempt from this policy.

University Village residents’ parking permit applications and parking permits are available ONLY through the Department of Residence Halls leasing office.

The smart plan for students: beginning July 1 through July 31, 2008 only, prior to arriving on campus for Fall semester, select and register for your Commuter or Resident or Discount parking permit on myUM ( www.miami.edu/myum ), and choose the convenient UPS home delivery option.  Your parking permit will be delivered to the street address you specify.  A receipt signature is required.  You save time, avoid standing in line, and help save a tree with less paperwork.

This program offers you the opportunity to select and receive your appropriate parking permit prior to arriving on campus.   We strongly encourage you to participate in the myUM program.  For detailed information and instructions, please read the next 2 items on the menu at left.

Again, welcome to the University of Miami.  We are committed to serving you. If you have any questions, problems, or suggestions, please contact us, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Sincerely,
