Health Insurance Credit
The University of Miami Graduate School, in coordination with the Office of the Provost and Student Health Service, sponsors a $500 credit towards the cost of University of Miami Student Health Insurance coverage. This credit applies only to Coral Gables Campus Teaching Assistants (TAs), Graduate Assistants (GAs), Research Assistants (RAs), Fellows and Trainees who are enrolled in Ph.D. and DMA programs, who wish to purchase 2008-2009 student health insurance offered through the University of Miami Student Health Service.
Research Assistants (RAs) on grants enrolled in UM Student Health Insurance coverage, will receive the $500 credit from their respective grant assignment (unless the grant already provides full coverage).
This credit does not apply to Graduate Students on the Medical Campus or RSMAS Campus.
To take advantage of this credit, please select the payroll deduction option under the employee tab on MyUM.
Instructions for enrolling in payroll deduction
1. Sign into MyUM
2. Click on Employee tab
3. Click on Health Insurance
4. Follow instructions
If the payroll deduction option does not appear
on your MyUM screen, please contact your department to verify the status of
your assignment. The payroll dedution option will not appear on your MyUM screen
until your student assignment has been processed by your department and entered
by the Office of Student
Employment. Although the deadline to waive the insurance is July 25th,
for those who accept the insurance and the $500 credit, the deadline to sign
up for payroll deduction is October 1st.
All students receiving the University of Miami Coral Gables Health Insurance
Credit must be coded with special identifiers GAFE, GAGA, GARA, GATA, GATR
respectively. For information on the processing of your assignment, please
