Account Clearance
All students must pay the balance on their account before they can select courses for a future semester. If the balance has not been paid, a registration stop may be placed to prevent registration. When the balance has been satisfied, the stop will be lifted.
Previous students applying for re-admission must be cleared by Student Account Services. An outstanding balance will prohibit the student's readmission until the balance has been satisfied. Requests for transcripts and diplomas must be cleared in the same manner as re-admission.
Students who are graduating, withdrawing or leaving UM
If you are graduating, have withdrawn or are just leaving the University of Miami and have borrowed student loans (Stafford and/or Perkins loans) federal regulations require that you complete an Exit Interview prior to separating from the University (even if the separation is a temporary one). The Exit Interview provides you with important information relating to the loans you received and a review of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. The Check Distribution Office distributes payroll and credit balance/refund checks. College Work-Study and Miami Commitment students can make arrangements with their department supervisors to receive their paychecks in their departments. Check Distribution is located in Room 129A of the
Checking Accounts: Most students prefer to open their own checking account at a local bank in order to manage financial needs. When you open an account, it is recommended that you deposit cash, traveler's checks or a money order. Most banks will clear checks drawn on local bank in three (3) business days. However, non-local checks may take seven (7) or more business days to clear. Foreign items may take 20 to 30 business days to clear.

Expense Letters
Student Account Services will prepare letters of expense verifying amounts paid to the University. Letters for anticipated expenses are not prepared by Student Account Services. International students should receive letters for anticipated expense from International Scholar Services.
FT1 Form
Student Account Services will prepare FT1 forms for Dade County Teachers.
