About the Butler Center

The Butler Center for Service & Leadership strongly believes that the key to academic and social integration for students is faculty connections. We offer a variety of ways for faculty & staff to become involved in shaping the undergraduate experience including but not limited to:

* Participation: Actively participate in the over 30 events offered by the Center each month or encourage class members to become involved. Contact the Center for a calendar of events.

* Civic Engagement Task Force: Work to redefine service-learning, map assets of academic/community partnerships and create innovative ways to incorporate avenues of civic engagement into the campus experience.

* Site Leader/Day of Service Training: Give educational background and framework for issue-driven community service sites (i.e.: poverty, immigration, social justice, etc.) to student site leaders and participants prior to their participation at a site.

* Service-Learning: The Center is a resource to promote, enhance and implement the inclusion of service into class curriculum. Services include but are not limited to any combination of the following: site research & placement, reflection activities, coordinating transportation, developing learning outcomes & course syllabi, tracking/auditing student experiences and managing issues with the service site.

* Speakers Bureau: Conduct speaking engagements by registering your areas of expertise and availability. The Center will connect student needs with your ability to provide meaningful content.

* Leadership Certificates/STRIVE Community Programs: Provide topical seminars and workshops consistent with thematic certifications offered through the Center's programs and initiatives.

For more information on how to become involved or for assistance in the creation of a service experience through one of your courses, please contact the Center.
