University of Miami's ICCAS Announces the Premier of "Plantados"
The Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS) announces the premier screening of the documentary Plantados. On Tuesday May 9, 2006 at 7:00 pm, ICCAS will present the film at the Casa Bacardi/Olga-Carlos Saladrigas Hall, 1531 Brescia Avenue at the University of Miami.
This film documents the plight of Plantados, stubborn political prisoners in Fidel Castro’s jails. Living for twenty or thirty years in small, filthy cells and enduring physical abuse with hoses, sticks and bayonets, Plantados have suffered the harshest punishment. Plantados is their story, in their words. The documentary is in Spanish with English subtitles.
Plantados was directed by Rafael Lima and produced by the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies. Professor Lima, an award winning writer and Professor of Communications at the University of Miami, will be present to discuss the documentary and answer questions. The documentary was made possible through a generous contribution from Leopoldo Fernandez Pujals.
The premier will be open to the public, a $5.00 donation is requested. It is free for UM students, faculty and staff with proper ID. Cocktails will also be served courtesy of Bacardi. Reserve a space by calling the ICCAS at 305-284-CUBA (2822) as seating is limited.
