Mix it Up: Communication Week 2008
|
Coral Gables, FL (Feb. 11) - What do you get when you bring together dozens of professionals who make their living by communicating with others? A lot of talking. Plus writing, films, advertisements, promotional materials, photography, television shows, etc…you get the picture.
A better way to sum up this gathering is to call it by its name: Communication Week 2008, brought to you by UM’s very own School of Communication. Every year for the last nine, the SoC has played host to this celebration of the communication arts and professions by bringing students, faculty, and special guests together with top professionals and scholars from South Florida and around the nation. Their focus is on the salient ideas and trends of the day.
“The program is stimulating, informative, and enlightening,” says Blyth Daylong, director of events and production management for the SoC.
According to the schedule, posted online at www.com.miami.edu/comweek, some of this year’s hottest events will include screenings and presentations by “The Blues Brothers” director John Landis; a panel of Pulitzer Prize winners; discussion with Kimberly Weissman, public affairs chief for the Department of Homeland Security; and talks by new Gannett CEO Craig Dubow, and Craig Minassian of Comedy Central and “The Daily Show” fame.
“I’ve been to Communication Week three years in a row now, and it’s always new and exciting,” notes public relations major Allison Brede.
Communication Week 2008 will run Feb. 15-22 and be open to the UM community. Events will be held during days and evenings in the School of Communication buildings at 5100 Brunson Dr. and the Cosford Cinema on the second floor of the Memorial Classroom Building on the Coral Gables campus.
Campus maps are available online at www.miami.edu/maps/gables, and updates to the special week’s schedule are made regularly, so check back for more details.
