University of Miami’s Institute for Cuba and Cuban American Studies Holds a Press Conference: “What to expect?  What are the implications of changes in Cuba.”

WHAT: UM’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies (ICCAS) will hold a press conference to analyze the decision of the Cuban Council of State on new leadership for the island. The council will meet this coming Sunday, February 24th, and it’s the first time Fidel Castro will not be a candidate for its presidency. 

WHEN:  Monday, February 25th at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Casa Bacardi, 1531 Brescia Avenue on UM’s Coral Gables campus

CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS:

MODERATOR: Dr. Jaime Suchlicki, Director, Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, and Professor of History at the University of Miami. He is a highly regarded consultant to both the private and public sector on Cuba and Latin American affairs.  He is the author of: Cuba: from Columbus to Castro and Beyond.

Dr. Brian Latell is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies at the University of Miami, where he also teaches. From 1990-94 Dr. Latell served as National Intelligence Officer at the CIA for Latin America. He is the author of After Fidel: The Inside Story of Castro’s Regime and Cuba’s Next Leader.

Dr. Andy S. Gomez serves as Assistant Provost at the University of Miami and as Senior Fellow at the University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS).  At UM, Dr. Gomez also served as Dean of the School of International Studies .He also serves as a nonresident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

Dr. José Azel, is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, University of Miami.  Dr. Azel was an Adjunct Professor of International Business at the School of Business Administration, Department of Management, University of Miami. He has a comprehensive general management background integrating broad functional experience in corporate governance, organizational development and finance.
