The mission of the Department of International Students and Scholar Services (ISSS) is to provide support services for international students, scholars (faculty, researchers, and post-docs), and observers.  Over 1500 international students (undergraduate and graduate), 240 international scholars (researchers and professors), and 485 observers from approximately 111 countries are studying, conducting research, teaching, and observing at the University of Miami.

International students and scholars face some unique challenges as well as opportunities while pursuing their academic goals at the University of Miami.  To facilitate the educational experience, International Student and Scholar Services offers the following support services:

  • Immigration Advising
  • Orientation
  • Employment Information and Authorization
  • Federal Income Tax Filing
  • Personal and Adjustment Problems
  • Advocacy
  • Liaison (Sponsors, Governments)

ISSS also advises the Council of International Students and Organizations (COISO).  COISO represents the needs and interests of our international student body, which comprises over 10% of the total student population. COISO is also the umbrella organization for over 30 international student organizations. COISO organizes events such as International Week and United Nations Day, retreats, excursions and other social events for international students. If you wish to contact COISO or any of the international student organizations, email the COISO President at coiso.studorg@miami.edu
