International students who are granted admission to the United States in F-1 status must meet certain requirements to remain at the University of Miami. Each student is required to meet with an international student advisor upon arriving on campus, where the advisor will change the student’s status from “initial” to “active.” Although the international student advisor is here to assist the students, it is ultimately the responsibility of the individual to maintain his or her immigration status.
