• Undergraduate enrollment Fall 2007: 1,235 students
• The school owns and operates UMTV, a cable television channel, and the Bill Cosford Cinema, which exhibits classic and contemporary films. UMTV won two Telly Awards this year for “UMTV Newscast” and the variety show “Off the Wire”.
• Students staff the university’s FM radio station, WVUM; Students also have the opportunity to work for the campus newspaper, The Miami Hurricane; and the UM yearbook, Ibis.
• Professional organizations on campus include The Ad Group, the Public Relations Student Society of America, the American Advertising Federation, the Society of Professional Journalists and many more.
• The school houses a Moving Image Archive collection of more than 3,000 feature and short motion pictures, including one of the nation’s largest motion picture collection of 35mm and 70 mm original prints of thousands of classic films, the Raymond J. Regis Moving Image Archive.
• The school annually hosts Communication Week, which offers an array of panels, exhibits, screenings and discussions featuring leading professionals and scholars in the communication arts. The School also hosts the We Media Conference, a convention that converges thought leaders and media pioneers from around the world.
• Metropolitan Miami is the largest media center in the Southeast, providing internships for UM students with organizations such as The Associated Press, Knight-Ridder Newspapers, Tribune Newspapers, Burson-Marsteller, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, CNN, MTV, NBC, Ogilvy & Mather, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, CBS, Fox, HBO and more.
