COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING - Hands On Early On
Industrial engineering students get hands-on experience in assessing energy costs, waste and productivity for manufacturers through the outreach efforts of the Industrial Assessment Center, one of just 26 funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

• Undergraduate enrollment Fall 2007: 766 students

• More than 30 specialized laboratories are available, including the biomechanics research lab, the computer-aided manufacturing lab, the robotics lab and the confluent media lab.

IMPaCT, or Integrated Math, Physics and Communication Track, is an interdisciplinary program for all freshmen that demonstrate the importance of math, physics, chemistry and communication and exposes you to engineering concepts beginning in your first semester on campus.

• The College of Engineering has a full-time career planning and placement specialist who helps engineering students find internships and employment.

Office Depot recently donated $500,000 to create the Office Depot Innovation Laboratory, which will specialize in supply-chain network simulation.

• The University of Miami is one of five institutions that are teaming with IBM to launch the Latin American Grid initiative, an effort that will foster world-class research and create leadership opportunities for Hispanic students in information technology and engineering.

• The College of Engineering sponsors students who participate in BattleBots IQ, a national educational program that teaches participants to design and build a competitive robot.
