SCHOOL OF NURSING AND HEALTH STUDIES - Hands On Early On
For students like Erica Pardo, Ofelia Cabrera, Allie McFarling and Irma Nieto, their daily classes are anything but routine undergraduate classes. Small groups of nursing students start their classes by spending ten minutes listening to pre-recorded summaries of patient maladies, as they would do in a real hospital.

M. Christine Schwartz Center for Nursing and Health Studies: This four-story, 53,000-square-foot facility features classrooms wired for Web-based and distance learning, clinical practice labs equipped with technology for patient simulations and seminar and conference rooms.

The International Academy for Clinical Simulation and Research: The IACSR is the nation’s first comprehensive, high-fidelity simulation center designed for nursing and health science education. Encompassing 5,500 square feet on the second and third floors, the academy features: a three-bed simulation suite, a seven-bed adult laboratory, a seven-bed pediatric laboratory, a micro-simulation computer lab and a conference room. Academy facilities replicate a variety of clinical settings including ICU, CCU, ER, OR/Perianesthesia and Neonatal ICU, and “patients” include a full complement of high-fidelity simulators representing a range of ages and ethnic groups.
