Financial Aid Programs
Loans
General Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the loan programs listed below, a student (and parent in the case of the PLUS) must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen, have a valid Social Security Number, and not be in default of a loan and/or owe a refund. The student must be enrolled at least half-time and make satisfactory progress toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program. If required, the student must also be registered with the Selective Service. First-time borrowers must also complete an Entrance Interview with the Office of Student Account Services.
Application Procedures
In order to be considered for any federal loan programs, a student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). First-time borrowers awarded Stafford loans must submit a signed master promissory note (MPN) for the appropriate loan. In order to expedite and ensure receipt of funds through the Federal Stafford and PLUS loans we suggest students adhere to the priority deadlines. For more information on PLUS loans and how to apply

Alternative education loans are available to interested students to supplement their education costs. Students with a good credit history may be eligible for this loan. Competitive interest rates or fees are determined by you or your co-borrower's credit score. Check with your bank, credit union or other private lender for availability and terms.
For the campus-based Federal Perkins and Nursing Loan programs, students are required to sign a promissory note, otherwise the loans will not be disbursed. Students awarded a Federal Perkins Loan will receive an e-mail notification every year before classes begin. They may sign their Perkins electronically.
Nursing students will continue to be mailed a paper promissory note until further notice. Additional information can be obtained at the Office of Student Account Services located in room 158 of the Ashe Building.
Summer Loans
Continuing students who have filed a FAFSA, completed a Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note and wish to receive a Stafford Loan for the summer term must complete and submit a separate request form. Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits total between Summer I and II) to be eligible.
