Honors Programs
The Honors Program offers approximately 200 courses and course sections each
semester.
Available in introductory through advanced levels, honors courses are mainly small seminar classes with emphasis on interactive learning and discussion. Through our highly selective dual-degree programs,
select incoming freshmen have the extraordinary opportunity to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Law, Marine Geology, Medicine, Latin American Studies, and Physical Therapy.
Invitations to General Honors are extended based on an incoming freshman's outstanding scholastic achievements in high school and high scores on the college entrance examination. The Honors Program invites entering freshman to join. A minimum SAT of 1360 or ACT of 31 or better and ranked in the top 5% of your high school graduating class is required. On receipt of an invitation, there is no further action required on your part.
Transfer students who have no more than 60 credits earned toward graduation and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher are eligible to apply for the Honors Program. Eligible transfer students should contact the Honors Program Office located in Building 21-Y or telephone 305-284-5384.
The Honors Summer Research Program matches students with a faculty mentor on the Medical, Rosentiel
(marine), and Coral Gables campuses to do research in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. The students are required to work 280 hours during the summer. Students in the program receive 3 Honors credits, a grade from the supervising professor, and a stipend of $1,500.
