Dress Professionally (Mandatory)

You will succeed in creating the impression that you are serious about your future employment opportunities if you dress in appropriate business attire. It is absolutely necessary that both men and women wear conservative business suits. If you are unsure about what to wear, speak to career planning professionals so you will have time to make necessary additions to your wardrobe prior to the Event. A well-groomed candidate with a professional resume will make a strong, positive impact on recruiters. People not dressed professionally will not be allowed to enter the Event.

Meet Recruiters & Ask Questions

Walk up confidently, say hello, introduce yourself, and shake the representative's hand. Be sure to establish eye contact and smile. Make a general statement about yourself, such as, "I am in the School/College of ..........., with a concentration in .............. and will be graduating in December/May of .................. I would like to know more about career opportunities within your company." Make sure you get their business card. The more recruiters you speak with, the more skilled you will become at these first introductions.

A professional resume is an important aspect in the overall impression you make. The resume should be well written, follow established resume development guidelines, and be professional in appearance. Make sure that the information reflected in your resume is clear and exclude any typographical or grammatical errors.

Ask for a business card before leaving an employer. This will ensure that you have the proper name and address of the representative with whom you spoke. Make sure to send a follow-up letter within a week of the event. Be sure to remind each recruiter that you met him/her at the University of Miami Career Event. You may wish to include a copy of your resume.

Make sure you have created a profile and uploaded your resume before the Event. This will ensure that you will have your resume critiqued and looking good for the event.
