Translations supplement, but do not replace original documents. Please remember to send both the document and its certified English translation!
4. Statement of financial responsibility;
If you are admitted, you will have to provide evidence that you can finance your education. Therefore, you must submit a Statement of Financial Responsibility, demonstrating adequate financial resources to cover the cost of attendance and additional expenses. Many students finance their education through:
a. personal resources
b. private resource (sponsorship)
Although international students are generally allowed to work on campus under certain conditions, an international student cannot be considered for a job prior to arrival in the U.S. As a result, international students should not include in the Statement of Financial Responsibility any amount of money that they hope to earn after (hypothetical) hiring in the U.S.
If you plan to come in the United States with your spouse or children, you will have to demonstrate adequate financial resources to cover the living expenses for them. This is $8,000 for the first dependent, and $2,000 for each additional dependent.
5. Financial guarantee;
An official letter from your bank or a government sponsorship letter (no more than six months old), addressed to the University of Miami, must certify that you have available funds for covering the estimated cost of attendance and additional expenses for two semesters.
If you have a sponsor, a letter from your sponsor must be accompanied by an official letter from its bank to certify that the sponsor have available funds for financing your education.
6. Official score reports;
TOEFL All international students who do not speak English as their native language are required to submit the the results of the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who submit a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test, will not be required to take any courses in English as a second language.
Note - Applicants holding an undergraduate or graduate degree from an academic institution within the United States or another English-speaking country are not required to take the TOEFL examination.
GRE All applicants must submit recent (within five years) Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores that include the aptitude portion. Some departments might require the advanced test in the major field of your career, so make sure that you check your department's requirements. Students who already have a graduate degree in the same or in a related area are not required to take the GRE.
