Dr. Patricia A. Whitely

Dr. Patricia Whitely As Vice President for Student Affairs, Pat Whitely is responsible for the leadership and policy development for the Departments of residence halls, wellness and recreation, health services, counseling services, international student services, multicultural student affairs, career planning and placement, student life, and other offices serving the 10,000 undergraduates at the University of Miami. Whitely is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of 140 staff, for a budget exceeding $35 million, and for out-of-class education and learning opportunities supporting 11 colleges and schools serving over 15,000 students.

Whitely has an Ed.D. in higher education administration from the University of Miami, a M.Ed. in student personnel services from the University of South Carolina, and a B.S. in management with minors in economics and theology from St. John's University. Whitely also completed post-doctoral work in higher education at Harvard University's Institute for Higher Education, and brings her wealth of experience to the classroom in the Organization and Administration of Higher Education course at the University of Miami.

Whitely served as chairperson of the City of Coral Gables Community Relations Committee and has served as the UM Chairperson for United Way for the last three years. She currently serves on the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Journal Editorial Board. She has served on the NASPA Region III Advisory Board, the American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Educational Leadership Foundation, and served as the Executive Director for the NASPA 2002 Alice Manicur Symposium for Women preparing to become Senior Student Affairs Officers.

She is the recipient of many honors by students and was the first woman at the University of Miami to be tapped into the Alpha Chapter of the Order of Omega, the Greek honor society.
