| Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month - Join us for a month of educational and entertaining programs celebrating the contributions of Asian Pacific American culture. Black Awareness Month - February is Black Awareness Month! Join the University community for a month full of informative and fun-filled events celebrating the achievements and contributions of the African American culture. Black Graduate Student Reception - Reception is held once a semester to provide black graduate students and black faculty and staff an opportunity to meet and network. Black Student Scholarship Banquet- The Woodson Williams Marshall Association (WWMA) and the University of Miami Black alumni Society celebrates the scholastic achievements of students by awarding scholarships at an annual banquet. Black Student Success Series- Academic support programs held each semester. Students have an opportunity to interact with faculty and staff, and learn skills that will assist them in achieving their collegiate goals. Co-sponsored by the Woodson Williams Marshall Association (WWMA). Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Week - Celebration commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The week includes several educational programs that honor the contributions of Dr. King. Finals Fiesta- End of semester celebration held on the last day of classes in December and April. All students are invited to attend an afternoon of food, games and fun. Hispanic Heritage Month - Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the University of Miami. The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee along with the Department of Multicultural Affairs sponsor several programs and special events in an effort to help foster the public's awareness, understanding and appreciation for Hispanic culture during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Students have an opportunity to interact with faculty and staff, and learn skills that will assist them in achieving their collegiate goals. Co-sponsored by the Hispanic Alliance. Horizons - An orientation program designed to assist new students of color in their transition to the University of Miami. To register for Horizons click here. MSA Open House- The university community is invited to stop by, meet the staff and learn about the resources and services provided by the department. Native American Month- Celebrate the rich traditions and culture of Native American people. Senior Mwambo- The Senior Mwambo is an African rite of passage ceremony designed to recognize the accomplishments of our black graduates and their families. It is a celebration of the transition from one stage of life to the next. Undergraduate and graduate students who have applied for graduation are encouraged to participate in the Senior Mwambo Ceremony. Uncovering Potential Leaders and Increasing Future Triumphs (UPLIFT) Program- The UPLIFT mentorship program is designed to help undergraduate students at the University of Miami by pairing them with multicultural graduate students who serve as a source of information, guidance, and support. This program allows graduate students to share their knowledge and experiences with undergraduates. UNITY Roundtable- The UNITY Roundtable was developed in order to bring together student leaders from cultural groups that the Department of Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) works with. Meetings are held once a month and provide an opportunity for students to discuss issues relevant to the multicultural community. Some of the topics include: calendar planning, cohesive programming, support and guidance for multicultural student organizations, leadership development training, and sharing of knowledge and resources.
