Information for Partners and Visiting Exchange Students

Partner Meeting

Each year the International Education and Exchange Programs (IEEP) office invites representatives from our partner universities around the world to experience the University of Miami (UM) firsthand by participating in our partner meeting. This action-packed, two-day meeting introduces them to campus life and gives them an overview of the administrative procedures involved in the exchange program. The agenda includes everything from eating at a student cafeteria to exploring the nightlife in Coconut Grove. Individual meetings are arranged for partners interested in specific academic departments, and also for those who have students currently studying with us. After a hard day's work on campus, we give our partners the opportunity to network with each other over dinner and see some of the fabulous local attractions. Our partners leave Miami better equipped to advise their outgoing Miami-bound students, more prepared to handle the incoming UM students, and have taken in the very sights, sounds and beautiful weather that draw their students here year after year.
In 2008, we had 13 representatives from 11 universities, including Universidad de las Americas (Mexico), Tecnologica de Monterrey (Mexico), University of Sussex (England), University of Southern Denmark (Denmark), University of Essex (England), University of Leicester (England), Universidad de Cantabria (Spain), Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico), University of Glasgow (Scotland), National University of Ireland (Ireland), and University of Copenhagen (Denmark).

"It was a great opportunity to know more closely the UM int’l office team, the campus environment, the university as a whole.  We certainly will be more skilled to inform our students about UM.  It was also enriching to know other UM partners."

"I shall unhesitatingly recommend the University to my exchange students. One of the best campuses I have ever visited."

"I have so enjoyed my three days of University of Miami hospitality.  The programme covered so much information - information that was invaluable to me in my role as adviser to outgoing students. I'm sure that with the extensive knowledge I have now gleaned, the students should leave the UK well prepared for their study at the University of Miami."
       --Elizabeth Wingfield, University of Sussex

"The programme of meetings and events was excellent. I certainly learned a great deal and now feel much better placed to advise our outgoing students. The icing on the cake was to hear from our students already with you - they are clearly having a wonderful experience - thanks for all of your continuing efforts in making this so."

--Andrew George, Queen Mary University of London

"I had a fantastic stay with you last year. I am still in touch with a lot of the people from that meeting.

--Trine Sand Moalem, University of Copenhagen

"The Partner Meeting offered the opportunity to clarify administrative procedures and help us guide our students in a relaxed but informative setting.  It was great meeting students and hearing direct what it is like being an exchange student at UM!"

--Carol Robertson, Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College

"It was a great combination between an educational and entertaining experience. I learned a lot more about the American university system, the university's structure and about Miami hospitality."

--Bernard Smeenk, Amsterdam School of Business

"Attending the partner meeting certainly enabled me to understand the student oriented philosophy of the University of Miami. I feel I will now be ready to advise French students taking part in the exchange programme on all aspects of student life, as well as being able to grasp the needs of Miami students when they arrive in Orléans."

   --Greg Thompson, Université d'Orleans
