Emergency Procedures for students
If the University of Miami is in a disaster or emergency situation, you must do the following:
1. Remember to keep the IEEP Emergency Contact Card with you at all times.
2. If you are being evacuated or choose to leave, remember to take with you your important documents (passport, I-20, etc.). Please also take with you your personal belongings (wallet, keys, IDs, purse, etc.)
3. Contact your advisor to let him or her know that you are safe, as well as the location of where you are taking shelter during the emergency or disaster. If you cannot reach your advisor, contact one of the other advisors listed on the card.
4. If you change locations prior to the reopening of the University, let your advisor know the new location and phone number.
5. Keep in touch with your family.

These include: passport, visa, SEVIS-issued I-20 or DS 2019, 1-94, Social Security Card, financial records, plane tickets, checks and credit cards.
2. Take any contact numbers or email addresses to keep in touch with your designated school officials (P/DSOs):
Check the school’s web site or designated school official (P/DSO) office to find out how they would like you to contact them if you are displaced.
3. Take the SEVP contact information:
If you cannot get in touch with your designated school official (P/DSO), contact SEVP to let us know where you are and how we can reach you. Email to SEVP at SEVIS.source@dhs.gov, or call free from any phone: (800) 961-5294.
4. If you decide to transfer to a different school:
Check the SEVP web site at http://www.ice.gov/sevis or call (800) 961-5294 to determine if your new school is on the list of certified schools.
If you are in a personal/medical emergency, please do the following:
