INS 594 (Section 98): Multilevel Governance, National Identity and Human Rights Protection in a Diversifying Europe. Pre-requisite INS 101. Registration for this program is subject to the professor’s approval.
Discover the complexities of multilevel governance, national citizenship and identity, cultural diversity and minority rights protection in a contemporary Europe that is institutionally integrating while at the same time showing signs of fragmentation along identity lines. Beginning in Munich and ending in Amsterdam, students will spend two weeks in Bolzano, Italy, in intensive courses on minority rights and diversity before traveling to Geneva, Strasbourg, Paris, Brussels and the Hague for informational visits at the United Nations, European Parliament and various commissions and secretariats protecting human rights, European Court of Human Rights, International Criminal Court, the OSCE, and Council of Europe.Accommodations: Students will share rooms in hotels, hostels and apartments.
Cost:$4,050 (estimated) for 3 credits undergraduate tuition. In addition, students will pay a travel package that covers tuition for two-week intensive course, local transportation, lodging, entrance fees for scheduled events and tours, and some meals.
