Credits: 3 to 6 undergraduate credits
Academic Offering: Students take courses taught in English in the Social Sciences and Humanities or German language courses.
Session 1 Program
Students can take courses in both Track A and Track B, but can not take a Track A or Track B course with Track C.
Track A (3 UM credits each):

- European-American Encounters in Film/Visual Culture: From the Cold War to 9-11, Focus on Germany
- Jewish Life in Berlin: History and Culture from the 17th Century to the Present
- Representing the Nation: The Modern Artist and Germany (Art History)
- Understanding the European Union - Internal & External Affairs
- Music Composition - Compose, Rehearse & Perform
- Borders and Crossings: German Literature and Culture from Romanticism to the Present

- Intensive German Language (at all levels)
Session 2 Program

- Art in Berlin: From Romanticism to Expressionism
- The Third Reich: Seduction and Terror
- Intercultural Dialogue or Clash of Civilizations: Islam and the West. Exploring cultural differences and commonalities
- Aesthetics of Belonging: Representing Nation and State in Europe Since 1750
- Berlin Today: Photographing the Multicultural City
- The Art of Resisting the Third Reich: Retracing History through Peter Weiss’ novel “Aesthetics of Resistance”
- Cinema City Berlin
- Metropolis Berlin in Literature and Culture from 1945 to the Present
Track C (4 UM credits):
- Intensive German Language (at all levels)
Accommodations: Students are housed in a single room in shared apartments in a student dorm, a single room in Berlin-Lichterfelde or a homestay with a Berlin host family.
Estimated Costs: $1,350 (estimated), per credit. Students also pay a program fee of $450 to $1,300 for their housing in Berlin. This fee is paid directly to the Freie Universität Berlin.
