Situated on one of Austria's most beautiful lakes, the Strobl campus of the University of Vienna offers a summer program of advanced coursework for juniors and seniors.

Strobl's rural, picturesque location is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, windsurfing, jogging and swimming. The SHS does offer tennis and windsurfing courses as part of the sport program, and row boats are available for students. Hiking trails in the surrounding mountains are abundant, and you can join guided mountain hikes on two of the weekends. All sport activities are free of charge.

You will have the option of taking four European Studies courses taught completely in English, or German language courses, or a combination of both. The courses, worth 1.5 credits each, cover fascinating topics such as:

 

  • European Monetary Union
  • European Political Systems
  • EU: Its Legal and Institutional Framework
  • Science, Culture, and Politics in Recent History
  • European Security after the Cold War
  • European Private Law – The Civilian Tradition
  • International Protection of Human Rights
  • Policy Making in the European Union
  • Turning Points in 20th Century Europe
  • Law and Information Society in Europe
  • Seminar: Europäische Gegenwartsprobleme
  • Modern Art – Central European Contributions

Weekend excursions include visits to Salzburg (guided tours through “Schloß Hellbrunn” and the “Fortress Hohensalzburg”), St. Wolfgang (guided tour through the city and the famous “Pacher Altar”), and Ebensee (guided tour through former concentration camp site and museum). All excursions are free of charge and included in the program fee. You will live in single or double rooms on campus and meals are provided in the campus cafeteria.

Application Procedures and Deadlines

Prerequisites: rising juniors and seniors, 3.0 GPA requirement

Program Fee: $9,000 (estimated) includes tuition, IEEP fee, housing and all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), as well as use of all sport and recreational activities (including tennis and windsurfing courses) and all planned excursions

(Salzburg, St. Wolfgang and Ebensee).
