"Studying and living in Japan was an eye-opening experience. It allowed me to view the world from an entirely new perspective and to develop greater cultural understanding. Not only were the classes well taught, the program also offered opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom. You learn from teachers, organized trips, and in everyday encounters with the Japanese culture."

               --Eric Estevez, Past Program Participant

This summer you can learn more about how the mix of tradition and technology challenges Japan's social, economic, and cultural life in the 21st century. Attend the summer session of Asian Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, one of the foremost of Japan's private universities.

Get an introduction to Japan, its language, culture, and way of doing business. At the same time you will gain an understanding of the Japanese people, including how they think, feel, and view the world by studying the past and present world of Japan.

Choose from among such courses as Japanese language, business, economics, art, literature, religion, history, and sociology. Lectures are given in English, and class work is enhanced with field trips to a variety of cultural, political, and economic institutions. You will experience cultural demonstrations such as a tea ceremony, and learn about the art of flower arrangement in the Japanese culture. Cultural movies about Japan also are included.

Students must choose two of the following courses offered at the Ichigaya Campus of Sophia University:
