General Information about the Career Planning and Placement Office

The College of Engineering (CoE) has its own department to help engineering students achieve internships while they study and  career opportunities when they graduate. The following is a list of CoE Career Planning and Placement offerings:

 

  • Counseling students about the procedures, step by step, to seek internships, co-ops and career opportunities
  • Working with students to prepare, update and maintain individual resumes
  • Advising students on options related to career planning including identifying and seeking out opportunities, being effective at interviews, participating in career fairs and other career-related events,  involvement in student organizations, creating effective correspondence both written and electronic, selecting between offers, and transitioning from student to professional.
  • Assisting in coordinating engineering students’ contact with other areas within the university including the central placement office (Toppel Center), the Alumni office, Student Affairs and other units as necessary (Financial Aid, Counseling, Academic Resource Center etc)
  • Providing counseling to students facing issues that affect their college experience, including career questions or difficulties as well as academic or personal issues.
  • Assisting student organizations in making effective contacts with corporate firms in engineering, technology and business to provide opportunities for financial support, mentoring and career placement
     

     

The Career Planning and Placement Office is also in charge of other programs. They are as follows:

  • Lunch with the Leaders, which is an informal lecture series where recruiters can meet directly with students
  • Homecoming, is an event which is sponsored by the Career Planning and Placement Office.
  • Engineering Week or E-Week, is another event which is sponsored by the Career Planning and Placement Office.
  • Entrepreneurship Forum, which is an annual event provides another means for engineers and other professionals to meet students in a more relaxed setting
  • The Co-Op and Internship Program is also supported and organized by the Career Planning and Placement Office
