This course will expose students to the concepts of motivation as it relates to leadership and a variety of professions. Theories, practical applications of motivation, and strategies for using successful motivation techniques will be included.

 

The Bible and the Problem of Language

A study of the nature of religious language as compared with other forms of spoken and written discourse, focusing on the Bible. This course will feature a close examination of texts from the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) that raise controversial issues for understanding the Bible and its relation to other religious writings.

Topics include the extent to which it is possible to communicate religious experience, and problems in the expression of religious ideas such as ?God.?

Organizational Communication

Introduction to organizational communication theory. Consideration of structure, function, and effects of communication in organizations are analyzed. Emphasis is placed on principle needed for decision making and effective management or organizational communication processes.

 

Writing the Research Paper

Advanced techniques in conducting research and writing the research paper. Use of traditional library resources, on-line searches, the Internet, and other research methods. Strategies for effective presentation of research findings.

Prerequisite: ENG 106 or equivalent. Students not in the Bachelor of General Studies program need permission of instructor.
