Testing Center

The Testing Center reports to PIR and provides comprehensive assessment services for the University of Miami and Southeast Florida.  The office is located on the Coral Gables campus* (map) in the Ungar Computing Center, room 339.  Established by the University in 1946, areas of current responsibility include machine scanning and scoring of tests and surveys, administration of faculty evaluations and publication of summary statistics, survey design and tabulation, and measurement consultation.  The Testing Center also coordinates local arrangements and staffing for many of the standardized exams hosted at UM.  For general information, please call the Testing Center at 305-284-2450 weekdays.

 

  • Scoring tests
    All University faculty can arrange for the Testing Center to use their optical mark sense readers for scoring of multiple choice (single-response) tests and surveys.  The standard UM test scoring forms allow up to 200 test items with a maximum of five choices per item.  For Test/Survey scoring instructions* call 305-284-2450 to receive a free printed copy by inter-office campus mail.


  • National and State tests
    The Testing Center administers the ACT Assessment, GRE Subject Tests, LSAT, MPRE, SAT, and many other standardized tests.  Those needing to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for admission to the University of Miami or elsewhere may register online or by calling toll-free in the U.S. to 1-800-GO-TOEFL.


  • Institutional TOEFL
    The Institutional TOEFL is offered on dates throughout the year to the members of the UM community.


  • Survey design
    The Testing Center provides consultation on the design of mail surveys.  Printing, scanning, and scoring services are also available.
