Workers' Compensation Policies and Procedures

                       

 

WORKERS' COMPENSATION                

 

 PURPOSE

 To provide the reader with a general understanding of the University's workers' compensation coverage.

 

 POLICY

 The University purchases workers' compensation and related coverage to provide certain statutory benefits to employees injured in the course of their employment.  As presently constituted, the University's workers' compensation policy is endorsed to provide workers' compensation coverage for the employee while he/she is working in any of the 50 states, overseas, or while working as a crew member on one of the University's research vessels.  Worker's compensation benefits are divided into two categories:

 

      A.   Payment of medical expenses related to on-the-job injuries or sickness.

      B.   Partial replacement of lost wages due to an injury occurring on  the job.

 

 PROCEDURE

 All Campuses:  All job-related injury or illness must be reported to:

The incident must be reported immediately or no later than 24 hrs of occurrence.  The injured employee's supervisor is responsible for:

  • arranging medical  attention for the injured employee

  • completing the "UM Injury/Accident Report" 

  • submitting all paperwork related to the work-related injury to the Office of Risk Management.
