University Of Miami Business Professor Is The Most Prolific Author In Top International Business Journals
Coral Gables, Fla. - June 12, 2008 – Yadong Luo, Emery Findley Distinguished Chair, Chair of the Management Department, and Professor of International Management at the University of Miami School of Business, is the most prolific author of articles published in six leading international business journals. That, according to a study published in the June issue of the Asia Pacific Journal of Management.
The study examined the number of articles published by scholars in the Journal of International Business Studies, Management International Review, the Journal of World Business, International Marketing Review, the Journal of International Marketing, and International Business Review between 1996 and 2006.
Authors were ranked by the number of publications in each journal, adjusted by the number of co-authors. Authors received a score of “1” for a single-authored work, “0.5” for a work that had two authors, “0.333” for a work with three authors, and so on. Luo was ranked the leading author of articles in the Journal of International Business Studies and Management International Review; and the second most published author in the Journal of World Business. Taking all six journals into account Luo was ranked the No. 1 author.
“I’m thrilled to see Yadong honored for his remarkable achievement; this recognition is well deserved,” said Barbara Kahn, dean of the University of Miami School of Business. “The ranking illustrates the strength of the University’s business faculty, which we continue to build upon as part of our strategy to achieve global preeminence,” said Kahn.
Taking into account Luo’s publications, the study ranked the University of Miami No. 9 in the world, and No. 4 in the U.S. among institutions hosting the most prolific authors in the leading international business journals. In the article that outlined the study, the authors point to the ranking as illustrating the influence of these top universities on the advancement of international business knowledge.
“Given the number of prolific authors at these institutions, it can be argued that these institutions may hold considerable influence on the direction of international business research,” wrote authors Shichun Xu, Goksel Yalcinkaya and Steven H. Seggie. “If such distinctive leadership has resulted from a deliberate or programmatic effort, these institutions should receive special credit for facilitating advancement of international business,” the authors added.
