Academic Services Free Classes
Academic Services offers free computer related classes to the University
community covering topics such as HTML, JavaScript, Introduction to
the Internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PageMaker, and other software.
These classes are approximately two hours long and include an informative
lecture, hands-on exercises, and documentation.

myUM is UM's interactive information
hub-- the one-stop source for personalized, university-related information
for students, faculty, and staff. Provides students with access to their academic records, course registration,
on-campus recruiting opportunities, and financial aid information. In
addition, students are able to vote in the student government elections.

myUMbackup
Tired of losing your work or ever needed
an old file restored? Have your PC's data backed up automatically with
myUMbackup. This subscription based service, offered by the University
of Miami's Information Technology Department, will backup all files
that can be modified from your wireless or network attached PCs in real-time.
This service will even work from any location with a high-speed internet
connection. More importantly, if you should need to restore a file or
a previous version of a file, it can be brought back to your PC immediately.

The Gartner Research IntraWeb provides worldwide information and insights
needed to understand the technologies driving computer systems, communications,
and software. This valuable research tool is available to all students.

Information
OpenVMS accounts are available for students, faculty, and administration
with a valid departmental account number.

Residential College Computer Network
Canenet is UM's student network located in the Residential Colleges.
It provides fast reliable internet connections for those students living
in the dorms. All that is needed is a computer
with a network interface card (10Base-T Ethernet compatible) and an
RJ-45 patchcord (Category 5 Ethernet compatible). You can surf the Net from
your room, check e-mail, and much more.

Information Technology has purchased licenses for Symantec
AntiVirus, one of the leading virus protection software applications
in the world. We are providing the software to all enrolled
students.

of all telecommunications services at all University locations.

UMail Information

UMail is a free service to university students. Features include:
- Email- including delivery to mobile devices such as the Cingular BlackJack and the BlackBerry Pearl
- 2 GB of storage
- Ability to send and recieve messages up to 60 MB
- Directory Service - this provides a listing of all email address registered with the university
- Calendaring- including the ability to view other UMail users availability
- Access your account from popular email clients such as Microsoft Outlook or from the Internet at http://umail.miami.edu

is the University of Miami's wireless network available
in
most areas of the Coral Gables campus. It provides fast, reliable Internet and UM network connectivity
for faculty, staff, and students. All that is needed is a computer
with an 802.11B wireless LAN card. You can surf the Net, check
e-mail, and much more from anywhere within our
wireless cloud.
