Presidential Commission to Investigate Veteran Care in S.D. on Thurs

A presidential commission investigating care for wounded service members stops in San Diego tomorrow. It is the panel's second meeting outside Washington. Former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala is co-chairing the commission with former U.S. Senator Bob Dole.

Shalala, speaking on KPBS Radio's these Days program, says the panel wants to hear about improving treatment for soldiers suffering from Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome.

Shalala: The American people are going to send a very clear message to congress that whatever the investment, we need to make it. But our commission has not made a recommendation in that area yet we're a couple of months away from our final recommendations.

The commission was created by President George Bush after widespread media reports focused attention on inadequate medical care for wounded soldiers.
