Five students (grad and undergrad) received the first and second place awards in the physical sciences category at the RCF 2009. Antonio de Luca from CAE received first place and both Hasan Abdel Fattah from CAE and Dinah Baria from BME received second place in the graduate student competition. BME faired very well in the undergraduate student competition with Abraham Akinin receiving first place and Nestor Arita receiving second place within the undergraduate student competition.

Antonio de Luca (right) achieved first place for the research poster presentation titled, "Behavior of full-scale concrete columns internally reinforced with glass FRP bars under pure axial load." Coauthors on this work included Antonio De Luca, Dr. Fabio Matta, and Dr. Antonio Nanni of the University of Miami. Hasan Abdel Fattah (left) achieved second place for the research poster presentation titled, "Online Sorting of Recovered Wood Waste by Automated XRF Technology." Coauthors on this work included Dr. Helena Solo-Gabriele of the University of Miami and Dr. Timothy Townsend of the University of Florida.
