Making the Difference You’ve Always Dreamed of Making
Recent headlines can make one throw up their hands in despair. But hopelessness will never enable one to make a difference on peace or social and environmental issues. Sam Daley-Harris will share insights and strategies from the 20th anniversary edition of his book Reclaiming Our Democracy: Healing the Break between People and Government on ways to make a profound difference in the public sphere.
Sam Daley-Harris is the founder of RESULTS, an international citizens lobby dedicated to creating the political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty. There are 100 RESULTS groups in the U.S. and 40 more in six other countries. In 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus said: “….no other organization has been as critical a partner in seeing to it that microcredit is used as a tool to eradicate poverty and empower women than RESULTS.” Daley-Harris also founded the Microcredit Summit Campaign, a project of RESULTS Educational Fund. Its 1997 Microcredit Summit was attended by more than 2,900 delegates from 137 countries and launched a campaign to reach 100 million of the world’s poorest families with credit for self-employment and other financial and business services—a goal that was surpassed in 2007. In 2012 Daley-Harris launched the Center for Citizen Empowerment and Transformation, which helps organizations train their members to create champions in Congress and the media for their cause.
Daley-Harris has degrees in music from the University of Miami, played percussion in the Miami Philharmonic for 12 years, taught music, and is a songwriter. He and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Micah and Sophie.
Sam Daley-Harris’s book Reclaiming Our Democracy: Healing the Break Between People and Government will be available for sale and signing at the event.
