Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series

The Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series was established in 1995 through the generous support of the Honorable Julia Chang Bloch and Stuart Marshall Bloch, A.B. '64, and designed to provide recognition to a University of Miami alumnus/a who has distinguished themselves and their alma mater through lifetime achievement and professional accomplishments.

On Thursday, March 27, 2008, School of Business Administration students learned from Ken Hunt, Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of VASCO Data Security International, Inc. about his "16 Year Over Night Success". Students interacted with Ken Hunt discussing questions that related to his professional experience, VASCO's market, effectively running a global company and product innovation.

Mr. Hunt is Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of VASCO Data Security International, Inc. VASCO is a leading supplier of strong authentication and e-signature solutions and services specializing in Internet Security applications and transactions. VASCO has positioned itself as a global software company for Internet Security serving a customer base of close to 6,500 companies in more than 100 countries, including approximately 1,000 international financial institutions. VASCO’s prime markets are the financial sector, enterprise security, e-commerce and e-government.

On February 15, 2008, School of Business Administration students had an opportunity to hear Matt Rubel, M.B.A. ’80, Chief Executive Officer and President, Collective Brands, Incorporated, speak about his success in “democratizing fashion and design in footwear” by creating more appealing shoe stores and bringing contemporary styles to Payless ShoeSource.

Matt Rubel has a long history in merchandising and retailing including management positions at well known brands such as J. Crew, Revlon, and Tommy Hilfiger. From 1999 - 2005, he served as the chairman and chief executive officer for Nike Inc.’s Cole Haan and is credited with re-energizing the brand, doubling the company’s size, and expanding its global impact.
