UMAA Book Awards
The University of Miami Alumni Association Book Award Program recognizes
outstanding high school juniors who have achieved academic
excellence and demonstrated exceptional leadership skills at selected high schools across the country. Book awards increase the University of Miami's visibility and profile at schools across the nation, exposing exceptional young men and women to the opportunities at UM and giving them first-hand contact with University of Miami alumni.
Recipients are presented with a book chosen by the Office of Alumni Relations during their schools’ awards ceremonies. Included with the book are a letter of congratulations from the University, an admissions packet and a list of "e-Buddies" made up of current students and alumni who are available to correspond via e-mail and answer questions about UM.
Sponsoring a Book Award
This program relies heavily on the generosity of the UM community. If you can’t give your time to present an award in person, please help by financially supporting this invaluable program that makes a lasting impression on prospective students, high schools, and communities around the country.
Each $35.00 sponsorship will enable one junior from a participating high school of your choice (please refer to current list of schools on the sponsorship form) to receive a book award presented in your name. A $105.00 sponsorship will enable you to select a new school of your choice to be included in our program. We are also pleased to offer your business the opportunity to become a sponsor of the program and to help us honor outstanding students. Your company’s name will be recognized as a sponsor in the book presented to the award recipient at the school of your choice. Simply fill out our
Sponsorship Form and return it to the Office of Alumni Relations.
Your sponsorship is considered a tax-deductible Annual Fund contribution
to the University of Miami. 100% of sponsorship money will go directly
to support the UMAA Book Award Program.
Although we will do our best to apply your sponsorship to the school(s) of your choice, sponsorships received after April 11, 2008 may be allocated on an “as needed” basis.
Presenting a Book Award
It’s always more meaningful when a UM alum, parent or friend presents the award. Volunteer to take an hour out of your day and present an award to a selected student in your area. Most award ceremonies take place in May or June – you will be contacted by the Office of Alumni Relations to verify your availability.
