Welcome to the Black Alumni Society

The mission of the University of Miami Black Alumni Society is to facilitate a comprehensive network among UM alumni, students, and faculty to advance the interests and needs of our community and promote the rich history of black alumni at the University.

The University of Miami Alumni Association supports an open and inclusive environment for all members of the Hurricane family. Please click here to read a message from President Shalala. Please feel free to contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 1-866-UMALUMS (862-5867) or

Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?"

Join in on this call to serve others through the nationally observed MLK Day of Service, taking place across the United States during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. We encourage University of Miami Alumni to get out and serve in memory of Dr. King’s legacy through an opportunity in your city.

Contact a local community organization or you can visit the following websites that provide information of opportunities available in your area:

Make sure to show your ‘Canes pride while volunteering by wearing your favorite ‘Canes gear and using #mlkdayofservice and #mlkdayumbas when posting on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
