UMAA Announces West Coast Tour for New Deans Receptions
The University of Miami Alumni Association is embarking on a West Coast tour to introduce Hurricane alumni to two of the University’s newest deans. Join us for an insider's view of the exciting changes, new directions and unparalleled momentum that are propelling the University of Miami into the top tier of academic research institutions.
Dr. Michael R. Halleran, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is a renowned scholar in Greek literature and Greek intellectual history. He most recently served as divisional dean of arts and humanities and professor of classics at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was responsible for sixteen academic departments, the Burke Museum for Natural History and Culture, the Henry Art Gallery, the Simpson Center for the Humanities, and Mean Hall for the Performing Arts. Dr. Halleran received his doctorate from Harvard University.
Dr. Sam L. Grogg, Dean of School of Communication, whose achievements in filmmaking span his career of more than 30 years, most recently served as dean of the American Film Institute. He was founding dean for the School of Filmmaking at the North Carolina School of the Arts and has produced several motion pictures, including the Academy Award-winning The Trip to Bountiful and Kiss of the Spider Woman. He received his doctorate in English and American literature and drama from Bowling Green University.
Receptions will be held in Seattle, San Francisco, and will wrap up Los Angeles, which will also feature the ‘Canes Film Screening.
