UMAA Mourns Passing of Ernie D'Escoubet
The University of Miami Alumni Association is saddened by the passing of Ernesto (Ernie) D'Escoubet, B.S.E.E. '65, M.S.E.E. '70, on April 2, 2007, at the age of 62.
D'Escoubet was born in Havana, Cuba, and emigrated to the United States in 1960. He was a dedicated and devoted contributer to charity and the community, and had a long and rewarding career in the semiconductor industry, retiring from Fairchild Semiconductor in Portland, Maine. Following his retirement, he devoted his time to his alma mater, the University of Miami, as a member of the George E. Merrick Society.
He served as a Trustee of the University of Miami and on the board of directors of the University of Miami Alumni Association, and was a member of the President's Council. He was selected as the 2007 receipient of the Henry King Stanford award for Alumnus of the Year, which will be awarded posthumously at this year's UMAA Alumni Awards Ceremony.
He is survived by his adoring wife Luly, his three devoted children, Ernie, Lourdes (Yoyi) and Jean-Michel; his loving mother Sara; his two daughters-in-law Carolina and Ana Maria and son-in-law Kevin Nason, as well as his seven cherished grandchildren Alex, Daniella, Michael, Nicolas, Juliana, Michelle, and Gabriel.
He was a man of faith, love and understanding was always a constant presence among his family and friends. The university community mourns the loss of Ernie, and will always remember his lifelong efforts and contributions to the University of Miami.
