How to Wear Your Ring: An Official Class Ring Tradition

Traditionally, juniors and seniors wear the official class ring with the open end of the "U" facing the ring wearer (while wearing your ring, you can read the "U" when you hold your hand up). The ring is worn this way until commencement day. Once your degree is granted, much like turning your tassel to the other side of your mortar board, the ring is turned around so the "U" faces outward so others can read it—symbolic of the fact that with a diploma in hand, the alumnus is ready to face the world.
