UMAA Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the University of Miami Alumni Association is the governing body for the association and the more than 146,000 living alumni of the University of Miami. Service on the Board of Directors is on a volunteer basis and demonstrates the highest level of commitment from our alumni community. Alumni may serve as officers on the executive committee, as directors, or as regional directors, and are ambassadors for the University of Miami and critical leaders in helping the Alumni Association implement strategic initiatives.
The Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is comprised of nine officers, three Alumni Trustees, seven Regional Directors, fifteen Directors, and three student directors. The term of service and responsibilities vary by position. Board members are nominated by fellow alumni and University administrators in the spring of each year. Select nominees are recommended by the UMAA Nominations Committee to the entire Board of Directors and Alumni Council for approval. Alumni Trustees are chosen separately by the University Board of Trustees' Trustee Service Committee. The Board of Directors meets three times annually.
The Alumni Council
The Alumni Council is the representative body of the Association and consists of the Board of Directors and the President and President-Elect of each affiliate group including National Alumni Clubs, affinity groups, and constituent associations. The Alumni Council as a whole is responsible for electing directors, approving the annual slate of Alumni Association officers, enacting and revoking the charters of affiliate groups, and adopting the constitution and amendments thereto.
UMAA Committees
Members of the Board of Directors and Alumni Council help guide the strategic implementation of the Alumni Association through participation on various standing and ad hoc committees. The standing committees of the Alumni Association consist of Awards, Nominations, Executive, Strategic Planning, and Constitution/Bylaws. Ad hoc committees are formed as necessary and are typically chaired by members of the Executive Committee.
