The University of Miami Legacy Program was designed to recognize the commitment and support of its alumni to their alma mater in choosing to send their children or grandchildren to UM. The University of Miami Alumni Association (UMAA) works closely with our campus partners to ensure a successful transition to college life at UM for our legacy families.

Alumni are the heart of the University of Miami's history and the key to its rise as one of the nation's top research institutions. We pay special attention to our relationship with alumni and couldn't be more pleased than when they express interest in sending their children and grandchildren to the U.

Legacy Admission

The University of Miami continues its rise in prominence among academic research institutions around the world largely due to the support and contributions of our alumni. As admission to UM becomes increasingly more selective, it is important that we pay special attention to our relationship with alumni and take exceptional care in evaluating legacy applications.

UM Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship

Katie Kuretski 2010 recipient Eligibility for the Legacy Scholarship is automatic for any legacy student who applies for admission and qualifies for financial aid.

To be considered for this scholarship, one need only complete their undergraduate application for admission to the University of Miami to be identified as a “legacy,” and submit a Free Application for Free Federal Student Aid through the federal processor, with the University (school code 001536) listed as a recipient of the results.

Legacy Reception

Each fall before the beginning of New Student Orientation, the UM Alumni Association hosts a reception to welcome new Legacy families to campus. A Legacy is defined as a child or grandchild of a UM Alumnus/a.
