The University of Miami Legacy Program was designed to recognize the commitment and support of its alumni to their alma mater in choosing to send their children or grandchildren to UM. The University of Miami Alumni Association (UMAA) works closely with our campus partners to ensure a successful transition to college life at UM for our legacy families.
Build your Hurricane Heritage
Make a UM education part of your family tradition
Alumni are the heart of the University of Miami's history and the key to its rise as one of the nation's top research institutions. We pay special attention to our relationship with alumni and couldn't be more pleased than when they express interest in sending their children and grandchildren to the U.
The University of Miami continues its rise in prominence among academic research institutions around the world largely due to the support and contributions of our alumni. As admission to UM becomes increasingly more selective, it is important that we pay special attention to our relationship with alumni and take exceptional care in evaluating legacy applications.

Legacy Information Sessions
The UM Alumni Legacy Admission Forums are part of a dynamic schedule of events during the 2014 Alumni Weekend celebration. Designed to help students learn how to become a competitive applicant for undergraduate and graduate admission (only for law and business applicants at the graduate level), the sessions are led by the University of Miami admission officers and cover the basics in terms of the application process, interviews, essays, and test scores. Students will get the benefit of personally meeting the admission officers for the University of Miami in a casual setting.

UM Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship
Each year, the UM Alumni Association works with the Office of Admission and Office of Financial Aid to select one freshman recipient of a $5,000 renewable, legacy scholarship. Eligibility for the Legacy Scholarship is automatic for any legacy student who applies for admission and qualifies for financial aid.
To be considered, one need only complete their undergraduate application for admission to the University of Miami and identify the name of their alumni parent/grandparent on the Common Application. The student must also submit a Free Application for Free Federal Student Aid through the federal processor, with the University (school code 001536) listed as a recipient of the results.
Recipients are notified over the summer of their selection by a representative of the Office of Alumni Relations.
