It is with great sadness, the University of Miami and University of Miami Alumni Association family mourn the loss of a dear and loyal friend, Richard D. Buckley, A.B. ’60.

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the sudden passing of our dear friend and past alumni trustee, Richard D. Buckley, A. B. '60. Rick Buckley's career in broadcasting began in 1960 as a page at the National Broadcasting Company.
In the 50 plus years since, Buckley has guided the company that bears his name and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Buckley Radio is one of America's remaining privately owned and operated radio companies. Buckley's portfolio includes seventeen radio stations across America in addition to the WOR Radio Network. The network syndicates programs to over 400 radio stations.
Rick was inducted into The New York State Broadcasters Association's Hall of Fame on June 27, 2011 for his excellence and commitment to broadcasting.
Rick was a former alumni trustee and a member of the prestigious alumni leadership group, President's Council, and served as a member of the School of Communication's Visiting Committee. Richard Buckley was instrumental in establishing the newly dedicated Richard D. Buckley Audio Studio at the University of Miami School of Communication in December 2001.
Rick's greatest delight was WVUM-FM, the University of Miami student radio station where he was one of the pioneers during his days at the University. He was the driving force behind the current plans to increase the station's coverage area.
A public memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 11 a.m., at The Christ Church in Greenwich, CT.
If you would like to make a memorial donation to honor Rick, the family suggests donations to the Richard D. Buckley Memorial Fund to support radio broadcasting at the School of Communications. To make your donation online please click here.
