Building on the successes of our 2012-2017 University of Miami Alumni Association Strategic Plan and the opportunities for the next five years, we have begun developing the Association’s next Strategic Plan, 2018-2023. There is tremendous energy and anticipation across the University community as President Julio Frenk guides the University’s next journey through the Roadmap to Our New Century. As the University’s valued alumni, you are an active part of shaping our future by helping us define the strategic direction of the UM Alumni Association, the priorities for your involvement, and the many ways to engage our alumni with the University and with each other.
Our strategic planning process began on November 3rd with a visioning session with the Alumni Board of Directors, and will continue through this academic year, with the new plan ready for launch in the fall of 2017. We will continue to keep you informed about the project through this website and other 'Cane communications. You will also hear more about the various ways we will solicit your input and ideas, including alumni surveys and planning discussions in your organizations and regions. Be sure to share your perspectives through the comment box on this page.
A Strategic Planning Council composed of UM Alumni Association leadership, University colleagues, and other alumni representatives will oversee the process. Their names are listed here along with an overview of key dates. We promise you a strategic planning process that is well-communicated, highly engaging, interactive, and forward-thinking.
This is an exciting time for the University and ’Canes everywhere as we show our loyalty and pride in the University, continue to strengthen our lifelong bonds with each other, and engage together for the benefit of our alma mater and the more than 177,000-strong ’Cane Community members.

Strategic Planning Council
The Strategic Planning Council will oversee and drive the UM Alumni Association’s strategic planning project in coordination with the Association’s staff and consultants. The group will function as a liaison to the entire volunteer leadership group and the selected representatives from other parts of the University who are asked to participate in the process. The Council will have a direct role to play in the strategic planning sessions at every meeting of the Alumni Board of Directors, and will be consulted, kept informed, and prepared between meetings. This Council will be supported by another tier of Association leadership - an electronic advisory council of alumni leaders nationally and internationally, who will provide additional insights and feedback on the strategic plan before and after each Strategic Planning Council meeting to ensure we are engaging the diverse expertise of our alumni.
