Volunteer with the UMAA
Volunteers are vital to the success of the UMAA. From organizing national outreach activities to serving as online career advisors to students, there are many opportunities for alumni to make a significant impact on their alma mater. Regardless of your talents and skills, you will find volunteer opportunities that fit into your schedule and allow you to stay connected to the University community.
Below are just a few of the areas the UMAA is seeking volunteers:
Alumni Weekend
Reconnect with your alma mater by becoming involved with a reunion committee or by volunteering at one of the numerous events that takes place during the weekend.
University of Miami Annual Fund
Educate alumni about the importance of giving back by attending volunteer calling nights, and serving on ad hoc committees and focus groups which brainstorm ways to increase Annual Fund participation.
Young Alumni Giving Rally – Give Back and Network
The Young Alumni Rally is a fun, simple way to get involved in supporting your alma mater. During the months of April and May, young alumni take part in a mini-campaign drive to reconnect with friends in support of the Annual Fund. The Rally culminates in an invitation-only Young Alumni Social hosted by the UMAA to kick-off the summer.
UMAA Board of Directors
Support the University of Miami as a member of the UMAA Board of Directors. Members of this governing body of the Alumni Association assist in policy making while serving as ambassadors in their community to reconnect other alumni back to their alma mater.
Book Awards
Honor outstanding high school juniors while promoting the University of Miami by becoming a UMAA Book Award sponsor and/or presenter. Book Award recipients are presented with a book, an application from the Office of Admission, and a list of “E-Buddies.”
’Canes Care
Show your university and community pride while making a difference in the lives of others. Volunteers work with other alumni and friends of the university to support a good cause in their local communities.
’Cane Connections
Search for old classmates, update your contact information, make valuable career connections, and stay connected to UM with the UMAA’s free online connection services.
Corporate Matching Gift Representatives
Identify fellow alumni within your company and share with them the benefits of supporting UM through the Corporate Matching Gift program.
E-Buddy
Join alumni and current UM students on the UMAA’s E-Buddy list. Upon becoming an E-Buddy, your name, degree, home city, and e-mail address will be provided to high school students who can ask questions about your degree, career, city, and overall experience at UM.
Hurricane Club
Support student-athlete excellence by becoming a member of your local Hurricane Club. Members have the opportunity to organize game watch parties and trips to Hurricane athletic events while raising money for student-athlete scholarships.
Miami Circle
Join Miami Circle and share your UM experiences with prospective students and their families in your community. You will have the opportunity to participate in activities ranging from assisting admission officers at college fairs to hosting and planning send-off parties for recently accepted students.
National Alumni Clubs and Contacts
Get involved with one of over 40 National Alumni Clubs and Contacts. These groups provide alumni, parents, and friends the opportunity to participate in events and programs in their local area while staying connected to UM.
Reunion Class Gift Program
Take your class to the top. The Reunion Class Gift program builds alumni participation by outreaching to and creating giving networks among classmates. This program is a great way to support the U and build excitement for the class reunions celebrated during Alumni Weekend and Homecoming.
School of Communication
Assist current students through mentoring or job counseling. Communication graduates can also participate in one of several information sessions that provide feedback and helpful career information to students with similar interests.
School of Law
Make a positive impact on current and prospective law students. Law school graduates are invited to volunteer by attending local law fairs, participating in online chats with students, communicating with prospective students by telephone or e-mail, and attending the yearly Law Day luncheon.
Toppel Career Center
Become involved in career events created to assist students and alumni prepare for life after UM. Opportunities include recruiting at career events (full time hires and interns), conducting on-campus interviews, serving on career panels, and participating in networking events. An Alumni Career Advisor is also available to provide career assistance to UM alumni.
Festival Miami
Festival Miami, the annual music festival organized by the Frost School of Music, features internationally renowned guest artists and first-class performances by the school’s widely known faculty and student ensembles. Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in the five week series serving as ushers and assisting staff with organizing concert material.
Student Advancement
Interact with current students while raising awareness about the UMAA through opportunities such as being a volunteer during Alumni Awareness Week, speaking at UM Ambassadors meetings, and recruiting UM Ambassadors.
