Annual contributions of any amount from alumni have a significant impact on the University's rise in excellence. Annual gifts are an important factor in national rankings, which attract top students, faculty, and grants. Gifts to the University help to fill a gap of about $8,000 between the cost of tuition and the cost of educating a student at UM, enabling the University to achieve key priorities outlined in the provost's strategic plan, Accelerating Ambition.

Unrestricted Support

Alumni annual gifts are a significant source of unrestricted support, gifts that are applied toward the most pressing needs across the University each year. They help meet urgent funding challenges that arise each year, which makes an immediate and tangible difference for current UM students.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Every day, University of Miami undergraduates count on scholarship gifts from UM alumni. Scholarships give bright young Hurricanes the chance to break through financial barriers and grasp the tremendous opportunity of a UM education.

Academic Programming Enhancements

From study abroad to sustainability, computer science to creative arts, the University of Miami offers more areas of study than any other private research university of comparable size. Expanding the on- and off-campus activities that foster intellectual and personal growth is a major priority for alumni annual contributions.

Graduate Fellowships and Stipends

Graduate students are the next generation of leaders who will help solve some of society's most complex problems. Competition for top graduate students across the country is fierce, so providing the fellowships and stipends that attract these students is critical in maintaining a world-class university.

James W. McLamore’s name is synonymous with philanthropy and service. His incredible commitment helped to transform the University of Miami. Alumni and parents of the University honor the legacy of James W. McLamore by making leadership annual contributions that touch every area of the University.

Replacing the President’s Circle, alumni and parents become members of the James W. McLamore Society by making leadership annual gifts of $1,000 or more, to anywhere within the University, renewed each fiscal year. These resources fund many initiatives including student scholarships, attracting and retaining outstanding faculty, expanding innovative academic programs, delivering groundbreaking research and health care, maintaining and growing our exceptional facilities, and solidifying our reputation as a force in collegiate athletics as well as the performing and visual arts.

Members of the James W. McLamore Society are greatly appreciated and recognized throughout the year for their support. Benefits include invitations to exclusive University receptions and events, access to community and business leaders, a personal liaison to the University, and an annual thank–you gift. Donors may join the McLamore Society at the following levels:
    Philanthropist $25,000+
    Benefactors $10,000 to $24,999
    Partners $5,000 to $9,999

#UGoldRush

Stake your claim in the #UGOLDrush 49-Hour Giving Challenge starting at High Noon on May 14th!

After the incredible success of last year's GOLDstein Family Challenge, the Goldsteins are back to challenge young alumni again to show their love for the U! The #UGOLDrush presented by the Goldstein Family is a 49-hour online giving challenge seeking to find 500 G.O.L.D (Graduate Of Last Decade) alumni to make a gift between 12:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 12th and 1:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 14th. When this goal is reached, the Goldstein Family will make a $25,000 gift to support student scholarships.

In addition to helping UM complete this challenge by making a gift, young alumni can also be entered to win "golden nuggets" like free football tickets, Alumni Weekend & Homecoming packages, and more just by helping spread the word about this exciting campaign. Simply include #UGOLDrush in any post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or any other social media platform, and you will be entered for a chance to win one of these "golden nuggets". Each time you post using #UGOLDrush, you are entered for a chance to win; the more you share, the better chance you have to win!

Young Alumni Philanthropy at the University of Miami

Young alumni—those who graduated within the past ten years—play an important role in helping the University of Miami to become the next great American university. Each passing year, young alumni represent a greater percentage of the alumni base—that means your role as a young alum becomes more and more pivotal to the future success and well-being of this University that is near and dear to our hearts. Engagement with the University of Miami through annual giving helps alumni feel great about giving back and strengthens their lifelong connection to the U.

Gifts from young alumni support:

  • Exceptional faculty and state-of-the-art facilities
  • Scholarships
  • Hurricanes student athletes and athletic programs
  • the UM student experience (study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, service and leadership)

By choosing the monthly payment option, you can spread your payments out during the year, enabling you to make a difference at UM in a convenient, budget-friendly way. It's all about participation—each and every gift counts, regardless of the size.

Thank you to all young alumni who have made gifts this fiscal year, which began June 1! Your annual support is continuing to help current students have the wonderful experiences at UM that you once enjoyed. If you have not made your gift, please consider making a gift to support the school, program or experience you valued most this fiscal year (June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014).

Make your gift today and join your fellow young alumni.

We all have our favorite UM memories – from the classroom to the intramural fields to the communities where we volunteered. By giving back today, you can provide current and future students the opportunity share in those experiences and make memories of their own.

Young alumni like you rose to the occasion as never before and met the GOLDstein Family Challenge this past year! We surpassed our initial goal of 2013 donors on May 1st which resulted in the Goldsteins; Sandy, Cindy and their son Sean, donating $25,000 to scholarships. The generous Goldsteins then created a Bonus Round with a new goal of 2400 donors. Because of the amazing generosity shown by you and your peers, 2,821 young alumni answered the last call for gifts and another $10,000 was directed to scholarships! Combined with our School of Communication and School of Architecture Challenges, the University received $75,000 to support important student initiatives like scholarships, internships, and study abroad opportunities!

Young alumni make a difference every year. Stand up to the challenge and continue to give back to the next generation of 'Canes!
