Annual contributions of any amount from alumni have a significant impact on the University's rise in excellence. Annual gifts are an important factor in national rankings, which attract top students, faculty, and grants. Gifts to the University help to fill a gap of about $8,000 between the cost of tuition and the cost of educating a student at UM, enabling the University to achieve key priorities outlined in the provost's strategic plan, Accelerating Ambition.

Unrestricted Support

Alumni annual gifts are a significant source of unrestricted support, gifts that are applied toward the most pressing needs across the University each year. They help meet urgent funding challenges that arise each year, which makes an immediate and tangible difference for current UM students.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Every day, University of Miami undergraduates count on scholarship gifts from UM alumni. Scholarships give bright young Hurricanes the chance to break through financial barriers and grasp the tremendous opportunity of a UM education.

Academic Programming Enhancements

From study abroad to sustainability, computer science to creative arts, the University of Miami offers more areas of study than any other private research university of comparable size. Expanding the on- and off-campus activities that foster intellectual and personal growth is a major priority for alumni annual contributions.

Graduate Fellowships and Stipends

Graduate students are the next generation of leaders who will help solve some of society's most complex problems. Competition for top graduate students across the country is fierce, so providing the fellowships and stipends that attract these students is critical in maintaining a world-class university.

At the heart of every great university is a group of generous donors who lead by example. At the University of Miami, that group is the President’s Circle. Last year some 3,000 alumni, parents, and friends renewed their annual gifts of $1,000 or more, contributing more than $21 million to support many areas of critical need.

President Circle members are civic and community leaders who strive to make life better for others. They are the ones who make it possible for groundbreaking research to take place and for students to become the first in their families to attend college.

The University of Miami recognizes their leadership by:

• Providing special invitations to exclusive University events.
• Providing access to personal liason who assists them with all matters pertaining to the University.
• Honoring their support at various recognition events.

Giving Levels

Alumni, parents, and friends who wish to support the University and be part of the distinguished President’s Circle may do so with recognition at the following levels:

Platinum Level $10,000 or more
Gold Level $5,000 - $9,999
Silver Level $2,500 - $4,999
Bronze Level $1,000 - $2,499

Protégé Level - Extended to graduates of the last 10 years

6 - 10 years after graduation: $500-$999
4 or 5 years after graduation: $400-$999
3 years after graduation: $300-$999
2 years after graduation: $200-$999
1 year after graduation: $100-$999

“Honoring the Past. Sustaining the Future”

The impact of your annual gift is powerful. Collectively, annual gifts influence the University’s ability to meet new opportunities and emerging needs while also honoring the timeless tradition of giving to the U. The newly established Loyalty Society recognizes committed alumni donors whose annual gifts serve as the foundation for the University of Miami’s growth.

Gifts of any amount, to any area of the University, given for two or more consecutive fiscal years count toward Loyalty Society participation. Alumni donors will qualify for membership upon their second consecutive year of making a gift every fiscal year. (May 31-June 1)

Honoring Your Impact

Loyalty Society members receive a membership packet and invitations to donor recognition receptions and other special events. It’s the least we can do to say thank you to those who make a profound and lasting impact through their dedicated giving.

If your employer has a matching gift program, you can maximize the power of your gift to the University of Miami. Thousands of companies offer to match all or a percentage of employee contributions to charitable organizations, making the employer a partner in your personal philanthropy. Best of all, you are recognized by UM for the full amount of your gift plus any resulting corporate match.

How to Obtain a Matching Gift:

1. Search our database to find out if your employer has a corporate match program.
2. If you or your spouse's employer have a matching gift program, contact your Benefits or Human Resources Department to acquire the proper forms.
3. Return your completed form along with or after your gift to the University of Miami.
4. Once we verify your matching gift eligibility, return the verified form to your employer.
5. Your employer will send the matching gift to the University.
