Annual contributions of any amount from alumni have a significant impact on the University's rise in excellence. Annual gifts are an important factor in national rankings, which attract top students, faculty, and grants. Gifts to the University help to fill a gap of about $8,000 between the cost of tuition and the cost of educating a student at UM, enabling the University to achieve key priorities outlined in the provost's strategic plan, Accelerating Ambition.
Alumni annual gifts are a significant source of unrestricted support, gifts that are applied toward the most pressing needs across the University each year. They help meet urgent funding challenges that arise each year, which makes an immediate and tangible difference for current UM students.
Every day, University of Miami undergraduates count on scholarship gifts from UM alumni. Scholarships give bright young Hurricanes the chance to break through financial barriers and grasp the tremendous opportunity of a UM education.
From study abroad to sustainability, computer science to creative arts, the University of Miami offers more areas of study than any other private research university of comparable size. Expanding the on- and off-campus activities that foster intellectual and personal growth is a major priority for alumni annual contributions.
Graduate students are the next generation of leaders who will help solve some of society's most complex problems. Competition for top graduate students across the country is fierce, so providing the fellowships and stipends that attract these students is critical in maintaining a world-class university.

The impact of your annual gift is powerful. Collectively, annual gifts influence the University’s ability to meet new opportunities and emerging needs while also honoring the timeless tradition of giving to the U. The newly established Loyalty Society recognizes committed alumni donors whose annual gifts serve as the foundation for the University of Miami’s growth.
Gifts of any amount, to any area of the University, given for two or more consecutive fiscal years count toward Loyalty Society participation. Alumni donors will qualify for membership upon their second consecutive year of making a gift every fiscal year. (May 31-June 1)
Loyalty Society members receive a membership packet and invitations to donor recognition receptions and other special events. It’s the least we can do to say thank you to those who make a profound and lasting impact through their dedicated giving.

Young alumni—those who graduated within the past ten years—play an important role in helping the University of Miami to become the next great American university. When young alumni stay engaged through annual giving, they feel great about giving back and strengthen their lifelong connection to the U. This year, through the Goldstein Family Challenge, young alumni have the opportunity to work with fellow 'Canes to help the University reach unprecedented levels of greatness.
Back in February, UM Alumni Sandy, BBA '81, MBA '85, and Cindy Goldstein, BSN '79 and their son, Sean Goldstein, BBA '12 pledged to make a gift of $25,000 to need-based scholarships, if 2,013 young or GOLD alumni (graduates of the last decade), make a contribution of any amount, anywhere within the University of Miami before May 31st.
Great news, on April 30th, we reached the initial goal of 2,013 young alumni donors! Now, in the Bonus Round, we need an additional 387 donors for a total of 2,400 before May 31st to receive an additional $10,000 gift (on top of the original $25,000) from the Goldstein Family to support need-based scholarships for deserving students!
Let's stand together – every 'Cane giving whatever is meaningful to each of them. Together we can get this Bonus Round and continue to create scholarships for future Miami graduates. DO the 'Canes thing today! Stand up and for your fellow Hurricanes, make your gift and be counted today!
Every gift to UM makes a difference, and no one else can do your part.
Today Sean is #1 in the Goldstein Family Challenge by making his first gift to UM.
What will your number be? Make your gift today and join your fellow young alumni.
