Attendance/Eligibility
Students who have completed or are scheduled to complete their requirements for graduation this Fall may participate in the December ceremony. The final awarding of degrees and honors is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the appropriate requirements by each candidate. The listing of a student's name in the printed program in no way implies or ensures his or her graduation or the award of honors.

Master's degree candidates will wear their hoods throughout the entire ceremony. Doctoral degree candidates will be given their hoods on stage when they are hooded.
Formation of Academic Procession for Candidates and Faculty
The academic procession, consisting of candidates, participating faculty, and alumni representatives only, will assemble at the graduation lineup site one hour before the ceremony begins and will be led by the grand marshal. At the lineup site, all candidates will be grouped by school and receive an index card on which to write their name, as they would like it to be read on stage.
Note: The academic procession will enter the commencement site fifteen minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.
Order of Presidential Procession
The stage party, which includes the president and provost, will follow the academic procession. The presidential procession will enter the site promptly at the scheduled starting time, and the audience should stand and remain standing until the ceremony is declared open.
Presentation of Degrees
Doctoral Degrees
The doctoral candidates will have their degrees conferred prior to the master's candidates in the graduate degree ceremony. Faculty advisors to the doctoral candidates will sit with their respective candidates. During the ceremony, the provost will introduce the dean of the Graduate School, who will present the candidates to the president. The dean will ask all candidates to rise for the conferral of their degrees. Following conferral, the dean will ask the graduates, along with their respective advisors, to come forward to the stage.
Graduates will proceed to the stage, where they will be hooded by preselected hooders. The advisors will stand beside the hooders.
After each graduate is hooded, the dean will present him or her with a diploma cover. The graduate will shake hands with the dean, then proceed to the president for a handshake and a photograph. Graduates will exit the stage and return to their seats.
Master’s Degrees
At the graduate degree ceremony, candidates will wear their hoods during the entire ceremony. The conferral of master's degrees will follow the conferral of the doctoral degrees. During the ceremony, the provost will individually introduce the dean of each school to present the candidates for graduation to the president. The dean will ask the candidates to rise for the conferral of degrees. Graduates remain standing until all master's-level candidates are recognized.
Following conferral, graduates will approach the stage to be congratulated. The dean will present each graduate with a diploma cover and shake his or her hand. The announcer will call out each graduate's name. Then the graduate will walk toward the center of the stage to the president for a handshake and a photograph. Graduates will exit the stage and return to their seats.
Bachelor's Degrees
For the undergraduate degree ceremony, during the conferral of the baccalaureate degrees, the provost will individually introduce the dean of each school to present the candidates to the president. The dean will ask candidates to rise at their seats for the conferral of degrees. Upon conferral, all graduates will move their tassels from the right side to the left side of their caps.
The dean will then ask the graduates to approach the stage to be congratulated. The dean will present each graduate with a diploma cover and shake his or her hand. The announcer will call out each graduate's name. The graduate will walk toward the center of the stage to the president for a handshake and a photograph. Graduates will exit the stage and return to their seats.
Processional Exit
The president will lead the recessional, followed by the stage party.
Graduates will follow the exiting stage party, front rows going first.
