September 11 – October 14This tribute to Japanese cinema allows the unusual opportunity to see three classics of Japanese cinema: Yasujirō Ozu’s An Autumn Afternoon (1962), Akira Kurosawa’s Drunken Angel (1948), and Nagisa Oshima’s Empire of Passion (1978). All screenings take place at the Cosford Cinema.
Monday, October 22, 2012Directed by Sanjeev Chatterjee, award-winning documentary media maker and professor at the University of Miami, On Cities is a non-verbal short documentary film that explores imminent threats to contemporary cities around the world. Focusing on the transformation of and challenges facing cities around the world, the film explores not only the struggles associated with rapid urbanization but the creation and sharing of knowledge that seeks to enhance urban life.
Spring 2013 (dates TBD)This annual showcase features the work of students in the School of Communication Motion Pictures Program in multiple genres, including documentaries, comedies, dramas, and thrillers. A jury of industry professionals decide which films deserved to be named the Best of Fest and go on to the annual ’Canes Film Festival in Los Angeles.
